Claudio Jimenez, Lima Peru- Fabulous Folk Art Shadow Box- Heaven and Hell

$650.00

From my Small Eclectic Folk Art Collection

The box is 13.75 inches (34.9 cm) tall including the peak of the roof on the front.

The box is 11.5 inches (29.21 cm) tall,  7 and 3/8 inches ( 18.73 cm) wide and 3.25 inches (8.25 cm) deep.

This folk art shadow box is a very large size filled with numerous three dimensional figures.  Hinged doors open to reveal the many colorful figures. The box is decorated with hand painted flora images and designs on all sides (except the back). This piece is signed on the back by Claudio Jimenez, Lima, Peru.  The renowned artist Claudio Jimenez Quispe is one of the famous family of retablo makers of Ayacucho....now in Lima, Peru.

I assume this shadow box to be a depiction of Heaven and Hell. There are about 38  different three dimensional figures, all colorfully painted and with incredible details. A man and woman at the center are held by winged angels above the fiery pit of hell...which contains demons, snakes, flames , tortured souls etc. The top figures are all saints or angels with a row of cherubs blowing horns.

Condition is excellent. There is a bit of dust, that I will carefully brush away but no broken pieces or damage.
