Fairbank Tackle- Tilghman Island
20 inches x 24 inches Acrylic on Illustration Board
Brushed Metal Frame 22.25 inches x 26.25 inches x .75 inches deep
This was the first painting I did featuring my second pig, the famous Miss Pigsley, and her Tilghman Island abode.
Miss Pigsley joined her predecessor Ms.Honkey Pearl as the inspiration for the Barbara Moran artwork in 2003 with her birth at the Raymond Farm. She was the runt of the litter, a small handful at four months old...I was excited that I had found the perfect pig (one that might stay small).
Well, you can guess the rest. Between the plentiful snack offerings and yummy meals Miss Pigsley grew at a steady pace. Soon some of her admirers on Tilghman were commenting on her attractive hams with ill concealed barbecue plans. That was so NOT happening !
Eventually the barbecue fanatics realized that Miss Pigsley would never be on the menu. Her worshippers continued to arrive at the Pigsley Shrine (Wharf Rd, at the back) the offerings were consumed and life was good.
Starting in 2010 I was back in the studio immortalizing the adventures of Miss Pigsley...and she did not disappoint. Miss Pigsley had many admirers on Tilghman who worshipped at the Pigsley Shrine, bringing the tasty offerings she came to expect. So Miss Pigsley had every reason to, in turn, admire the people of Tilghman.....and view them as much like herself.
The famous Miss Pigsley does not appear in this scene of her hometown of Tilghman but many of the other locals are in evidence. What? They all look like pigs? Well to Miss Pigsley that is just the way everyone looks. She thinks that they look marvelous. Long time residents will spot their friends, their friends' dogs, and several Tilghman characters. Like Miss Pigsley, some of them are no longer with us.
Here we see the center of commerce and the font of all Tilghman Island information....Fairbank Tackle. You can get the latest gossip along with an accurate weather report, beer, gas for the four-wheeler, fuel for the boat, wine, licenses for every recreational pursuit, tasty snacks, beer, smokes, basic groceries, emergency parts and equipment , wine, beer, ice and tourist accoutrements (hats and tee-shirts). And really...what more would you need?
