Where escapes are concerned, one is never enough. The second of the infamous Pigsley escapes inspired this ex-voto retablo. After all, when despite the continued bad judgement of falling prey to temptation a pig is once again delivered from her travails some higher being had darn well better be appropriately thanked. Here it is Anthony the Abbot, patron saint of swine and prisoners.
The Text: Someone in a misguided effort to fashion a walking harness did annoy Miss Pigsley to the point of open rebellion, whereupon she did flip out a fence section and escape. Shedding the offending ropes, Miss Pigsley did find herself loose in the open yard. Terrified and exhausted she did commend herself to Anthony the Abbot, patron saint of swine and was delivered from her travails and returned to the safety of her pen through his divine intervention and cookies. Secure again and in gratitude she offers this retablo to his glorification and everlasting memory.
